What we do with your information.

Who we are

Datum is a product of Brenton Partners Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 09599483, with its registered office at 70 Welland Road, Tonbridge, England, TN10 3TB.

For the information described in this notice we are the data controller: we decide what is collected and why. The law that applies is the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

The short version

If you read nothing else:

• We do not use cookies, analytics, advertising pixels or session tracking of any kind. The only thing stored on your device is your theme choice, if you make one.
• Nothing on this site is loaded from a third party — the fonts are served from our own domain rather than a font network, so no other company sees your visit.
• We only hold personal information if you send us some, by using the demo or contact form or by emailing us.
• We never ask for, and do not want, any data about your firm's clients or matters.
• We do not sell, rent or share your information for anyone else's marketing.

Visiting this site

You can read every page of this website without giving us anything. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to: the site sets no cookies and there is no script running in your browser to watch what you do.

The one thing the site keeps on your device is your choice of light or dark theme, if you make one, held in your browser's local storage. It contains no personal data, is never sent to us, and choosing "System" in the footer removes it.

Like any website, ours is delivered by a hosting provider whose servers keep standard access logs — typically the requesting IP address, the time, the page requested and the browser's user-agent string. These logs exist to keep the service running and secure, not to build a picture of you, and we do not connect them to anything else.

When you contact us

If you book a demo, use the contact form or send us an email, we hold what you send. Through the demo form that is:

Through the contact form it is your name, work email, your firm if you give it, and your message.

We use this to reply, to prepare and run the demonstration, and to keep a record of the conversation so that a colleague picking it up later is not starting from nothing. If the conversation goes further, the same details are used to negotiate and to set up a trial or a contract.

We do not add you to a marketing list on the strength of an enquiry, and we do not pass your details to anyone else to market to you.

Your firm's data

This is the question the people who read this page usually have, so we will answer it plainly. A demonstration does not involve your firm's data. The demo runs on an invented firm with invented clients and invented matters, generated for the purpose. We do not ask for an extract, a sample, a schema dump or a screen share of your live system in order to show you the product.

If we later work together and your firm's records are processed in Datum, that is a different relationship: your firm would be the controller and we would be a processor acting on your instructions, under a written agreement with the terms Article 28 requires. That agreement — not this notice — governs what happens to the data in the platform.

Why we may hold it

Data protection law requires a lawful basis for holding personal information. Ours are:

We do not ask for special category data, as the law defines it, and you should not send us any. There is no automated decision-making and no profiling on this site.

Who else sees it

Inside Brenton Partners Limited, the people working on your enquiry. Outside it, only the service providers we need in order to operate:

• our hosting provider, which serves this website;
• our email and business software providers, through which your message reaches us and is stored;
• professional advisers, and any authority we are legally required to tell.

Each of them acts on our instructions under a contract, and none of them may use your information for their own purposes. If any of them is outside the UK, the transfer is covered by the safeguards UK data protection law requires — the UK's adequacy rules or the International Data Transfer Agreement. We are happy to tell you who they are if you ask.

How long we keep it

An enquiry that does not become a working relationship is deleted 24 months after our last contact about it. If we do end up working together, the contact record is kept for as long as the relationship lasts and then for as long as we need it to meet our legal and accounting obligations. Server logs are kept for a short period by our hosting provider and then discarded.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you can ask us to:

• Show you what we hold about you, and why.
• Correct anything that is wrong or incomplete.
• Delete it, where we have no continuing reason to keep it.
• Stop or limit what we are doing with it while a question about it is resolved.
• Object to our using it on the basis of legitimate interests, including for any direct marketing — an objection to marketing is absolute, and we will stop.
• Hand it over to you, or to someone else, in a portable format, where that right applies.

Email contact@brentonpartners.com and we will respond within one month. There is no charge. We may need to check who you are before we act, which is a protection for you rather than an obstacle.

Complaints

If we have got something wrong, tell us first — it is usually the quickest way to fix it. You also have the right to complain to the UK's supervisory authority, the Information Commissioner's Office, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. Complaining to us does not affect your right to complain to them.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we handle information, we change this page and move the date at the top of it. Where a change matters to someone we are already talking to, we tell them rather than relying on their noticing.
